This tree by a creek I painted from an old photo I had and I really wanted to see what I could do with the bark. It’s medium is watercolour with linework of course and I was happy with the outcome altho I went on to acrylics shortly after.

Shamrock Plant

Did this one a while ago because I love the colour and shape of the shamrock. This is in my living room and now it has a burgundy partner so I guess I should paint it as well. This was done with felt pen and watercolour. Very simple but I liked the yellow of the basket against the black with those green oddly shaped leaves with the burgundy lining.

Grenada Sunset

Yes, this is a Grenada sunset and most of the sunsets were just as beautiful. Quite astounding. The legend is that you watch as the sun goes below the horizon and you might see the “Green Flash”. We didn’t but there are those who say they have. This also cried out to be painted.

View from the House in the Battery, Newfoundland

Again, while wandering, came across this colourful house and this view gave such a terrific snapshot of the city across the harbour that I took a photo of it. It was painted with gouach and acrylic and of course I always do linework. It was in the fall and the red berries on the Mountain Ash beside the house were lovely.

Grenada Harbour

We were off to the St. George’s farmer’s market when I spotted this strange little boat in the harbour. It didn’t look like it ever went anywhere, I think someone lived on it right where it was. It was quite the curiousity. What a scene and I put that photo in my ‘to paint’ file as soon as I arrived home. I felt that view that day depicted the harbour as it usually looked. It seems the sun always shines in Grenada and along with the scent of the many spices the island grows, there isn’t anywhere more beautiful. This painting was done with some acrylic, some gouach and a lot of felt pen in the detail.

Provincetown Shop

This tiny shop in Provincetown, Cape Cod had to be photographed for future painting. The orange was brilliant in the sunshine and I hope I have captured that in this picture. It was a variety store on the main street by the water and each time we walked by it, which was often, I vowed to paint it one day and voila!

Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland

Quidi Vidi, pronounced Kidi Vidi, is another town in Newfoundland that is very close to St. John’s and is completely charming. Tiny but they have their very own Quidi Vidi Brewery - the town, like St. John’s is an an almost enclosed harbour, the opening you see is the only way out to the Atlantic. Again the colours and charm of this little town invited me to paint this scene - it was very overcast the time we visited but even so the colours were vivid and I could hardly wait to get out my paints.

The Battery, St. John’s, Newfoundland

This one is of my favourite areas in all of Newfoundland. The area is called ‘The Battery’ because long ago, at the entrance to the harbour, this was where the British had cannons to defend the city. These little homes were built right into the rocks. There are places there where there are actual rock walls in living rooms or bedrooms in the homes. Wonderfully colourful and quaint. I walked it many many times and wondered if I’d every capture it in a painting.

This a scene from Ferryland, Newfoundland, Canada and a very typical scene it is there. Beautiful province in Canada, one that needs visiting often for more photos and the freshest air in the world it seems. Many more paintings to come of that area. Another acrylic with pen.

Funky Shop

This shop painting is on the main street in Provincetown and was one of many funky colourful buildings there. The perfect place to do many colourful paintings. This is pen and acrylic again and yes the actual store was this bright fluorescent orange.
